Globally, McKesson has been operating telephone-based health advice services for more than 25 years. McKesson Asia-Pacific was founded by Dr Matthew Cullen and Dr Andrew Wilson in 1995. Their vision was to utilise telephone and information technology to improve public access to healthcare. This involved combining the skills of experienced nurses, psychologists and other health professionals with a sophisticated decision support platform in a health call centre environment to provide high quality healthcare information and advice. The end result has been improved clinical decision-making and consumer outcomes as well as high levels of consumer and stakeholder satisfaction with the healthcare services operated by McKesson. This organization has been highlighted for their work in Chronic disease management in New Zealand.
