Cardiovascular disease (CVD) epidemiology is often presented as the paradigm for an approach to prevention that focuses on identifying individual-level risk factors and intervening on them through behavioral change (eg, diet and physical activity interventions) or through the early detection and treatment of biomedical risk factors (such as high blood pressure or dyslipidemias).

The objective of this article is to determine the combination of drugs and vitamins, and their doses, for use in a single daily pill to achieve a large effect in preventing cardiovascular disease with minimal adverse effects. The strategy was to simultaneously reduce four cardiovascular risk factors (low density lipoprotein cholesterol, blood pressure, serum homocysteine, and platelet function) regardless of pretreatment levels.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has funded a Guide for Useful Interventions for Physical Activity in Brazil and other Latin American countries, known as Project GUIA. The aim is to reduce obesity by identifying, evaluating and diffusing interventions that promote physical activity.

Este editorial recién publicado alerta sobre la necesidad de introducir cambios en cuanto a la gestión de pacientes con multimorbilidad,en especial aquellos con multimorbilidad física y mental. Así pues, desde el ámbito político, se debe tratar de abordar la multimorbilidad aplicando la idea de que no hay salud sin salud mental e, igualmente, de que los determinantes sociales de salud se afronten de manera efectiva.
